HRH The Deputy King Visits Muharraq and Initiates the Muharraq Development Plan

In compliance with the Royal Order of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to safeguard Bahrain’s historical and cultural architectural heritage, refurbish the Isa Al Kabeer Palace, and ensure the preservation of Muharraq’s rich historical identity, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Deputy King, paid a visit today to the Isa Al Kabeer Palace, the Pearling Path, and historic traditional homes in Muharraq. This visit marked the official launch of the Muharraq Development Plan, with the primary objective of preserving the historical and cultural essence of Bahrain’s buildings and cities.

His Royal Highness emphasized that Muharraq, often referred to as the “Mother of Cities” as designated by HM the King, is a place steeped in authenticity and heritage.

The Deputy King reaffirmed that Muharraq and its people hold a special place in the hearts of all Bahrainis. Their inspirational stories have become intertwined with the Kingdom’s history, serving as a source of pride and role models for future generations.

During the visit to the Isa Al Kabeer Palace, His Royal Highness was briefed on the Muharraq Development Plan, which aligns with HM the King’s Royal Order. This development plan is built upon five key pillars: the preservation of Muharraq’s historical identity, the provision of housing units meeting the needs of Bahraini families, the conservation of heritage structures, the expansion and diversification of green spaces in the governorate, and the enhancement of infrastructure services and public amenities.

In this regard, HRH the Deputy King gave instructions for the immediate commencement of the Muharraq Development Plan, encompassing land acquisitions, detailed design work, and plan implementation.

His Royal Highness also directed the timely completion of the Pearling Path project.

HRH the Deputy King emphasized the government’s commitment to fulfilling the responsibility of executing the Royal Orders aimed at preserving the historical and cultural character of Bahrain’s buildings and cities, extending this effort to all of Bahrain’s governorates in line with HM the King’s wishes, thereby realizing the aspirations of the Bahraini people.

The development area in Muharraq spans 1.4 million square meters and will incorporate 12,000 square meters of green spaces, heritage buildings, in addition to new and renovated housing units, multi-story and standard parking facilities, and pedestrian pathways.

His Royal Highness was accompanied by His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Isa bin Salman Charity Educational Endowment, the Deputy Prime Minister, HE Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, the Minister of Interior, HE General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, and a number of senior officials.
