Dubai Customs Explores Ways to Enhance Bilateral Cooperation with Omani Customs Delegation

Dubai, September 10 – Dubai Customs engaged in discussions with a visiting delegation from the General Directorate of Customs in the Royal Oman Police to strengthen cooperation and coordination between customs administrations in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

The meeting took place during a session led by His Excellency Ahmed Mahboub Mubarak, the Director-General of Dubai Customs and the CEO of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation. The Omani delegation was headed by Major Khalifa bin Talib Al Masqari, the Director of Customs in Dhofar, in the presence of Captain Yousuf bin Ahmed Al Balushi, the Head of the Regional and International Cooperation Department, customs inspectors, along with Mark Stanley from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and the executive directors and managers from Dubai Customs.

His Excellency Ahmed Mahboub Mubarak emphasized Dubai Customs’ commitment to sharing practical experiences with other customs authorities to benefit all parties involved in order to promote economic development and facilitate passenger movement. He pointed out that the department is working on enhancing customs services at the Hatta border crossing with Oman to support trade between the two brotherly nations.

He explained that the globally leading customs systems developed by Dubai Customs have processed around 80,000 transactions daily. In the first half of the current year, the number of customs transactions carried out by Dubai Customs increased by 10 percent, totaling 14 million customs transactions.

On his part, Major Khalifa bin Talib Al Masqari expressed the General Directorate of Customs’ commitment in Oman to enhance cooperation with Dubai Customs to support trade growth between the UAE and Oman. He commended the significant progress made by Dubai Customs in improving customs services and emphasized the importance of exchanging experiences and knowledge in the customs field to further enhance trade within the GCC countries and continually develop it in support of the economic progress of the council nations.

During the several-day visit, the delegation received a comprehensive overview of the customs work in Dubai, including an introduction to the role of the smart Mirsal 2 system in enhancing customs performance, enabling the system to process 97 percent of transactions without any human intervention. The delegation also conducted a field tour at the department’s premises, which included visits to the Control and Monitoring Room to observe its vital role in monitoring and tracking suspicious shipments. They also visited the Customs Centers at Deira, Al Khor, Dubai International Airport, and the new headquarters of the Technical Support Management in Warsan.
