The games are scheduled to take place in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, from September 23 to October 8, 2023. This event presents a fresh opportunity for Team Bahrain to demonstrate their prowess on the global stage, given that the Asian Games rank as the second-largest multi-sport competition worldwide, following the Olympic Games.
HH Shaikh Khalid revealed that Team Bahrain is gearing up to participate in a total of 18 disciplines during the competition. This inclusive approach aligns with the BOC’s commitment to facilitating Bahraini athletes’ engagement in diverse events, thereby showcasing their skills and securing accolades for the nation.
These statements were made by His Highness during the launch of the media campaign titled “Bahrainis Deserve Gold,” aimed at providing support and encouragement to Bahraini athletes as they prepare for the Asian Games.
HH Shaikh Khalid emphasized that Bahrain’s accomplishments in the Asian Games have been steadily growing since the inception of the tournament in 1982 in New Delhi, following the establishment of the Bahrain Olympic Committee in 1979.
Looking ahead, His Highness expressed his optimism that Bahraini athletes would excel by securing a significant number of medals. He attributed this potential success to the guidance of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the backing of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, as well as the oversight of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who serves as HM the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs and SCYS Chairman.
HH Shaikh Khalid commended the dedicated efforts being undertaken by the Bahrain Olympic Committee to ensure optimal preparation for the Asian Games. He extended his well wishes to Bahraini athletes, expressing his hopes that they would achieve significant milestones in the realm of sports, thereby further elevating the youth and sports movement within the kingdom.
