Commencement of Extensive Development Project on Al Fateh Highway in April
Preparations are underway for a significant development initiative on Al Fateh Highway, with the initiation of works scheduled for April, according to statements by Esam bin Abdullah Khalaf, the Minister of Works, Municipality Affairs, and Urban Planning.
The scope of these works encompasses the stretch from the northern point of Shaikh Hamad Causeway to the southern junction of Mina Salman, strategically aimed at alleviating the burden of heavy traffic congestion.
The transformation of Al Fateh Highway will entail its expansion into four lanes in each direction. Additionally, a two-way tunnel with three lanes at the Awal Road intersection will be constructed. The upgrade will also introduce a ground-level intersection, regulated by traffic lights.
Furthermore, the comprehensive project includes the establishment of an overpass featuring two lanes, facilitating smooth traffic flow from the northern vicinity of Manama on Al Fateh Highway to Prince Saud Al Faisal Road in Juffair. An elevated bridge, equipped with two lanes to accommodate U-turns near Al Fateh Corniche, is also incorporated in the plan.
The development efforts will provide alternate routes for the Juffair locality, enhancing overall transportation options.
While specific details about potential closures during the project are yet to be disclosed by the Ministry of Works, Municipality Affairs, and Urban Planning, stay tuned to our travel section for forthcoming updates.
In related news, the commencement of work on King Hamad Causeway is anticipated later this year. The causeway, running parallel to King Fahad Causeway, is projected to span three years for completion. With a total estimated cost of BHD1.5 billion, the project encompasses two railway lines intended to integrate into the proposed Gulf Railway network.
