Saudi Arabia is stepping into the future of urban mobility with the launch of its first autonomous food delivery service in Riyadh’s ROSHN Front Business Area. This innovative project is a collaboration between the ROSHN Group and Jahez, a leading delivery app, and operates under the licensing of the Transport General Authority.
The pilot program employs five self-driving robots, each outfitted with over 20 sensors, high-definition cameras, GPS navigation, and climate-controlled storage units. This advanced technology ensures that meals reach customers safely and maintain their quality, even during the Kingdom’s extreme heat.
Beyond convenience, the initiative addresses environmental concerns. By reducing reliance on traditional delivery vehicles, the autonomous robots help lower emissions, ease traffic congestion, and enhance air quality in the city. The project aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader goals of creating smart, sustainable urban environments under Vision 2030.
The pilot program is only the beginning. Plans are underway to expand the service to residential areas and shopping malls, making autonomous delivery a part of daily life for residents. City officials see this as a crucial step toward integrating robotics and AI into everyday public services.
Experts believe this initiative marks a milestone in Riyadh’s transformation into a tech-driven city. It demonstrates how innovation can simultaneously improve efficiency, sustainability, and urban living standards. The deployment of autonomous robots could also inspire further adoption of smart technologies across Saudi cities.
As Saudi Arabia continues to diversify its economy and invest in technology-driven infrastructure, projects like this illustrate the country’s commitment to creating modern, livable cities. Autonomous delivery represents a tangible example of how robotics and AI are reshaping the urban landscape while addressing environmental and logistical challenges.
With the pilot’s success, Saudi Arabia could set a global example for integrating autonomous solutions into everyday urban life. The Kingdom is positioning itself as a leader in smart city technologies, blending convenience, sustainability, and innovation.
